Our Kindergarten program is for families who are looking for a hybrid school model. Our program consists of three days in school, two days at home for the perfect blend of homeschool education. Discovery School’s First Grade Hybrid Program combines the best of structured academic learning with the flexibility of hands-on, play-based experiences. Enrollment at Discovery School is an intentional process designed to ensure a strong partnership between our school and the families we serve.
Applications for the upcoming school year open each February. Admission is not based on a first-come, first-served basis. Instead, we carefully review applications to determine alignment with our educational philosophy, expectations, and learning environment.
Campus tours and family interviews are offered based on enrollment availability and are not guaranteed for every applicant.
Because our class sizes are intentionally small, available spaces are limited. Admission decisions are communicated to families following the review process.
What curriculum does Discovery School use?
In our Early Childhood classrooms, we do not use a traditional boxed curriculum. Instead, our teachers follow a thoughtfully designed scope and sequence aligned with the Texas Prekindergarten Guidelines and informed by the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Learning comes to life through hands-on, play-based experiences that encourage exploration, creativity, and developmentally appropriate growth.
In Elementary, we use Sadlier Math, Phonics to Reading, and Handwriting Without Tears to support foundational academic skills. These curriculum resources provide a roadmap for what we teach, not how we teach it. Rather than classrooms filled with worksheets, you'll find students learning through hands-on activities, meaningful discussions, exploration, and real-world applications. Beginning in First Grade, project-based learning becomes an intentional part of our approach, allowing students to apply their knowledge through purposeful, engaging projects.
We believe strong academics and a childhood filled with discovery, creativity, and play can absolutely coexist.
What does a typical day at Discovery School look like?
Our school days are intentionally designed to balance strong academics with the freedom to be kids! Students participate in small-group instruction, hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, creative activities, and meaningful time with their peers.
While our classrooms are full of movement and play, each day follows a thoughtful routine with clear learning objectives. We believe children learn best when they are actively engaged in their education, not simply sitting at a desk completing worksheets.
How does your Elementary hybrid school model work?
Discovery School offers a unique hybrid learning model designed to give children a strong academic foundation while allowing families more time together.
Our core Elementary program meets Tuesday through Thursday, with an optional Monday Enrichment program. Students receive intentional, teacher-led instruction during their days on campus, while Fridays remain available for family time, travel, extracurricular activities, and learning beyond the classroom.
Elementary students receive homework each Thursday to be completed and returned the following Monday. Assignments are intentionally designed to be age-appropriate, manageable, and focused on reinforcing skills taught in the classroom. Our goal is to provide meaningful academic practice without overwhelming students or taking away from valuable family time.
We believe a quality education isn't measured by the number of hours children spend sitting in a classroom, but by the depth and quality of their learning experiences.
How is Discovery School different from a traditional private school?
Discovery School was created around a simple belief: children should not have to sacrifice their childhood to receive an excellent education.

How do you ensure students are academically prepared for the next grade level?
Strong academics are a priority at Discovery School. Our teachers follow a carefully designed scope and sequence aligned with grade-level expectations, ensuring students build the foundational skills needed for continued academic success.
In Kindergarten and Elementary, we use Renaissance assessments, a nationally recognized online assessment program that measures student achievement in reading and mathematics. Students are assessed at the beginning, middle, and end of the school year, allowing us to track academic growth, identify individual strengths, and tailor instruction to each child's needs.
Our most recent beginning-of-year results reflect the strength of our approach, with our Kindergarten students performing at the 91st percentile and First Grade students at the 88th percentile nationally, based on class median scores.
Our approach may look different from a traditional classroom, but our academic expectations remain high. We believe children can achieve exceptional academic results while still experiencing the joy of childhood.
What does it mean to be a play based school?
Children are naturally motivated to play, explore, and discover. Our play-based approach builds on this natural curiosity, encouraging children to experiment, create, and solve problems through meaningful, hands-on experiences.
Beginning in First Grade, we introduce project-based learning, allowing students to apply their knowledge, think critically, collaborate, and explore real-world concepts through engaging, purposeful projects.

Does Discovery School offer enrichment programs?
Yes! In addition to our core school programs, Discovery School offers optional enrichment opportunities designed to extend learning through engaging, hands-on experiences. Our Monday Enrichment program incorporates Spanish immersion alongside STEM.
These programs allow families to customize their child's weekly schedule, with the option for up to four days of classroom learning each week while maintaining the flexibility of our hybrid model.
What are the vaccine requirements?
All children are required to either be immunized or to have a medical or religious exemption on file in the school office.
What is the teacher child ration per class?
Our Early Childhood classrooms maintain a ratio of 2 teachers to 14 students, while our Elementary classrooms maintain a ratio of 1 teacher to 14 students. These are our maximum class sizes, allowing us to provide a small, supportive learning environment where every child is known, valued, and supported.
Is your Early Childhood program regulated by the state of Texas?
Our program is exempt from regulation by the Texas Health and Human Services' due to the days per week in which we operate. However, we are dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for your child and are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care for your child. Our staff is trained, degreed professionals and have been background checked. Our Board of Directors have created policies and procedures for our staff to ensure the well-being of every child in our care.
Is Discovery School accredited?
Discovery School is currently undergoing the accreditation process with Texas Microschool Accreditation Services (TMAS). We are committed to maintaining high standards of educational quality while preserving our unique approach to learning.
What are the long-term plans for Discovery School?
Discovery School is growing alongside our students! We plan to add one grade level each year until we reach Fifth Grade, allowing our students to continue their educational journey in a familiar, nurturing environment. As we grow, we remain committed to small class sizes, strong academics, hands-on learning, and protecting the joy of childhood.
